State-of-the-art dental clinic opens on Peterson Air Force Base

Members of the Peterson Air Force Base 21st Medical Group, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, community members, Gilbane Building Company, LEO A DALY, and trade contractors gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of Peterson Air Force Base’s new dental clinic. The community celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new clinic.

LEO A DALY provided architectural design and engineering services, in association with Gilbane Building Company. The new dental clinic sits on a site with unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains. “A major focus of the design was to create a building compatible with adjacent structures and orient the Dental Treatment Rooms toward the mountain range,” says Amy Schaap, LEO A DALY Senior Architect. “We wanted to provide a calming effect for patients.”

Designed to LEED 3.0 Silver standards, the new clinic is the first Air Force dental clinic to be built with a geothermal heating and cooling system. It features enhanced infection control measures, new centralized lighting controls, upgraded physical security protection, and increased climate control reducing energy costs by 40 percent.

The new dental clinic includes dental treatment rooms, dental lab, logistics, command and support spaces for 12 dentists and 24 additional personnel. It will support a patient population of 3,700 active duty warfighters, 21 GSU’s, and 1,000 reservists.
