Los Angeles Unified School District, South Region High School No. 2
The high school campus is in an urban setting located five miles south of downtown Los Angeles, in an unincorporated area known as the Florence Community. The 190,000-SF project includes educational, administrative, sports, support building facilities, bus/automobile drop-off zones, and approximately 200 parking spaces in support of approximately 2,000 students. The campus layout and distribution are designed and integrated for joint-use with the existing Bethune’s County Park playfields/pool and the new high school playfields, parking, and community facilities including gymnasium and multi-purpose facility.
The new high school is designed to the latest guidelines of the Los Angeles Unified School District Design Guide and the Planning and Design Guidelines for Small Learning Communities [SLC]. The project includes the following principal components:
- Four small learning communities consisting of classrooms
- Performing arts, music, and drama facilities
- Physical education and athletics building facilities incorporating most major indoor athletic activities associated to a main gymnasium and athletics field facilities (football, track, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis courts, basketball/volleyball courts)
- Library and media center with all support and ancillary required spaces
- Multi-purpose room with shared areas to the student store, parent center, adult education, administration offices, student career center, textbook storage room
- Centralized administration offices
