LEO A DALY receives DBIA award for intelligence community campus
The design-build project transformed a set of imposing government buildings into a secure, sustainable, state-of-the-art headquarters surrounded by community and parks
LEO A DALY, one of the nation’s leading architecture, engineering, and interior design firms, is pleased to announce that the Intelligence Community Campus (ICC-B) in Bethesda, Maryland is the recipient of a 2017 Design-Build Merit Award, given by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).
LEO A DALY, as Executive Design Architect under a team led by Whiting Turner, was commissioned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District to create an intelligence integration campus of more than 750,000 square feet by the re-use of existing government facilities and new construction. The ICC-B project re-images and revitalizes a set of imposing and outmoded governmental structures in a secure, sustainable, state-of-the-art intelligence headquarters surrounded by community and parks.
“LEO A DALY is committed to low-impact, smartly renovated buildings. There is high demand for sustainable design to use what is available and improve upon it,” said Emmett Ahearn, RA, LEO A DALY’s Director of Business Partnerships. “This project successfully repurposes a campus with 70-year-old buildings to re-position it as a world-class facility for 3,000 intelligence professionals.”
The award was bestowed in Philadelphia at the DBIA national conference during a ceremony on the evening of November 9 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. In announcing the awards, the DBIA stated that this year’s program recipients “deliver on the promise to reshape our communities one design-build project at a time.”
The ICC-B is located in the heart of the intelligence community, and has employees from Office of the Director of National Intelligence National Counterintelligence and Security Center, the National Intelligence University and Defense Intelligence Agency.
“The DBIA National Award of Merit solidifies the values of teamwork, collaboration and aligned expectations. The results are a world-class facility, added community value and greater social responsibility,” stated Ahearn.
