Video: Reimagining an icon
LEO A DALY’s Hotel del Coronado design blends historic inspiration with modern luxury
The Hotel del Coronado, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, is undergoing a complete re-imagining as part of a $400 million master plan. LEO A DALY’s Hotel del Coronado design includes the reimagining of the primary food and beverage promenade of the resort as well as a new residence building and conference center nestled into the iconic resort’s final parcel of developable land.
Sun Deck and Promenade
LEO A DALY’s redesign of the Sun Deck and Promenade creates a destination for cocktails at sunset or for a quick lunch before an afternoon at the beach. Designers opened the Sun Deck to create an efficient flow of traffic and maximize views to the water. Designers also provided multiple seating areas, including tables for dining and bar seats for happy hour. Comfortable group seating surrounds fireplaces for cooler California evenings.
Shore House at The Del™
Shore House at The Del™ is a three-story building overlooking a golden stretch of Coronado beachfront. The new building offers 75 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom fully furnished private residences. Residence and guest amenities include an ocean-view pool with cabanas, poolside bar and casual indoor-outdoor lounge. LEO A DALY’s Hotel del Coronado design for Shore House pays homage to the Queen Anne Revival design of The Del’s original Victorian Building. Prominent gables, red shingle roofs, white ship-lap siding and crimson window sashes blend Shore House seamlessly into the historic fabric while adding a distinctive, new presence. The front façade takes inspiration from the Victorian, featuring a wide veranda with two sets of entry stairs.
The interiors take cues from The Del’s seaside setting. A modern, California coastal aesthetic with curated furniture and artwork collections elevates the spaces and creates a residential feel. To accommodate the many conferences and group events held at the property, LEO A DALY designed a state-of-the-art conference center. A 15,000-SF ballroom with pre-function and break out meeting space will open onto a 14,000-SF great lawn with views to the historic hotel.
These renovations and new structures harmonize perfectly with The Del’s historic seaside setting and maintain its iconic status in the hospitality market.
